Do you want a funny wedding officiant?

Most of the couples that I work with want some humor in their ceremony, and I am happy to oblige. Personally I think that a good wedding ceremony has a few laughs, a few tears, and tells guests something new or special about the couple. But how much humor is right for a wedding ceremony? The answer is simple. How much humor do you want?

I think that the reason that a lot of couples book me is because they like my sense humor. I’ve mentioned my background in standup comedy before but I have never really gone into detail, so for today’s blog post I will.

My Standup Comedy Story

Way back in 1998, before camera phones and social media, I moved to a small town in Colorado called Grand Junction for college. For a Southern California boy there was plenty to make fun of, and that’s exactly what I did. In the dorms, in the dining hall, and even in class I often cracked jokes to entertain myself and my classmates. So when the amateur comedy contest was announced, lots of people encouraged me to participate. I had never done standup before but it sounded like a fun idea. The winner got $100 which to a starving college student might as well have been $1000.

So the big day came and long story short, I won. I talked about Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, I discussed Colorado towns with one streetlight, and a few other things that I can’t remember. When it was over, I had the admiration of my friends… and $100!

From there I was asked to perform at some local bars and clubs, and the next thing I know I was performing at venues all across Colorado. It was a great experience filled with lots of laughs, but when I was offered a spot on a college comedy tour, that’s when I tapped out. I loved doing comedy, but traveling through the snow in an Econoline van all winter was not my idea of a good time.

Success feels much colder than I expected.

Hiring a Funny Wedding Officiant

So years later when asked to perform a wedding for a friend, I reached back to my comedy roots to get a few laughs. I have been doing it ever since. My experience on stage comes in handy sometimes. Being able to read an audience, to think on your feet, and to ad lib are all qualities that I think that every officiant should have. So should you hire a funny wedding officiant? I would. In my opinion, quick wit and creativity can only make your ceremony better.

How Much Humor?

Everything I do is uniquely tailored to your desires, so if you want a traditional or formal ceremony with very little humor, I can do that. If you want to have the audience laughing the whole time, I can do that too. We work together to design the perfect ceremony for your personality. Check out what bride Melissa C., just married earlier this month had to say in her review:

“Our ceremony was the perfect combination of laughter and tears
and was so much more than I ever expected it to be.” – Melissa C.
